ABOUT WILLOUGHBY 1A
Willoughby is more than just a city- it's a community with a rich history, deep-rooted family values and a unique charm that sets it apart from the rest of Lake County. Willoughby boasts a historic downtown district that dates back to the early, mid 1800's and early 1900's. Unlike other towns in our area, our downtown spans just a few blocks, making it one of the most walkable and well-preserved historic districts in Northeast Ohio.
Surrounding the heart of Willoughby you'll find homes built between the late 1700's and early 1900's, with the majority constructed after the Civil War. The city's history is interwoven with the rise of the railroads, which played a significant role in its development.
But Willoughby isn't just about history-it's a city of diverse landscapes and family traditions. From the Chagrin River and its natural settings in the south, to the historical downtown at it's core to the farmlands, orchards, and summer resort homes built in the1920's by Cleveland's elite on Willoughby's North Coast. And let's not forget-our city played a notorious role in bootlegging during Prohibition, leaving behind tales of hidden speakeasies and late night Lake Erie runs.
Why Willoughby 1A?
Over the past six years, Willoughby has experienced significant changes-some positive, some VERY concerning. Yet, despite these shifts, there has been no real platform for residents and those that work in Willoughby to openly discuss what's happening in our city.
In the spirit of the First Amendment, we present to you WILLOUGHBY 1A!
This site is FOR the PEOPLE of Willoughby-BY the PEOPLE of Willoughby. Politicians and city officials are welcome to view Willoughby 1A but not actively participate. Politicians and city officials have their own established platforms to interact with the public.
What Is Our Goal?
The goal of Willoughby 1A is to be an interactive hub where residents can:
